Casio 121-L

Brief History
Casio’s classic desktop calculator family has been continuously advanced, american-made parts have been replaced by japanese ones, and a new smaller and more ergonomic housing was designed. Usability of these machines was highly improved due to redesigned circuits with correcting calculation and normalization errors. 10-digit 101-L and 12-digit 121-L calculators in 1973 used some mass-produced LSI ICs made by the three semiconductor-giants — NEC, Hitachi and Toshiba. The 101-L contains a multi-digit gas discharge display unit — similar to Burroughs-made Panaplex ones –, but 121-L has 12 pieces of one-digit VFD tubes. Operation were similar to state-of-the-art american models, but these machines lack zero suppression. Developing desktop calculators hasn’t been stopped in the next years, the new „F” series allows more functions than earlier models with use of newer parts.
