Elektronika B3-23

Brief History
The Sovietunion wasn’t able to produce pocket calculators in such quantities that the politics expected, although the first type was in mass production since 1974, but the applied technologies and its price didn’t allow manufacturing huge series. It was obvious that soviets could not achieve the goal, so in addition to further domestic projects and planned cooperation with socialist countries, the Sovietunion decided to buy the whole calculator production line from General Instrument of Canada to assemble the EZ series of pocket calculators. GI started to install the new factory Iskra in 1975, and supplied 250,000 units of four-function calculator kits to start mass production. After the background industry had started supplying this factory with required parts, the first Iskra-made soviet pocket calculator Elektronika B3-23 was ready to flood the market from 1976. In the next years, some more complex machines were developed.
