Texas Instruments TI-30 LCD
Brief History
TI-30 introduced in 1976 became very popular because of its low price and functionality. The japanese competition flooded the market with extremely low priced scientific calculators with LCD displays which requires much less power than LED displays. Texas Instruments developed the successor of the TI-30 with liquid crystal display technology, and in 1980 the TI-30 LCD was introduced in Europe. In the United States, a thinner "Slimline" TI-30-II were in production from 1981. Its novelty was the conversion between angular units. The used keyboard assembly in a wide range of calculators seemed to be faulty due to low quality of materials, so in 1984 the TI-30 LCD was replaced by japanese-made TI-30-III.
