Brother 821L
Brief History
After the hungarian foreign trade politics perceived that average people needs pocket calculators at affordable prices, from 1977 some japanese models were imported in large volumes. From 1978, Brother Industries’ four-function calculators were on the market, including cheaper ones with VFD tubes and more expensive thin calculators with liquid crystal displays. The Brother 828L-II (1978) and its successor, the 821L (1979) was almost identical, but 821L used Hitachi chip to allow 8 digits, memory register, sign change, square root and percentage functions with automatic power-off feature.
