Brief History
In September 1972, Sinclair Radionics released its first thin pocket calculator, the Executive. Its success inspired many manufacturers to produce a similar machine. The Japanese industry also made several types of pocket calculators, but years before the competition, Sanyo developed the first thin calculator, the CX-8190, which was available from 1974. Like the Sinclair Executive, only button cells for power source and LED displays were considered when designing the machine. The machine was built around a North American Rockwell chip, but the rest of the components were japanese products: the display was made by Sanyo, and the keyboard was from SMK Corporation, which still exists today and will be found in most Sanyo calculators. The display with large magnifying lenses was a compromise solution: it could be read almost exactly from the front, but the displayed numbers is so big as on VFD displays.

This type was also sold by the West German Quelle catalog store, however, we do not have information about its Privileg type designation (8xxM).
