Omron 86M
Brief History
Omron’s new product line from 1975 was exceeded not only the japanese, but world’s calculators with its unique rounded design. In addition to the extremely cheap Omron 606, the best-selling model 86 was spreaded all around the world, as Omron produced OEM versions for well-known manufacturers. After the basic variation, modified versions were produced, so the 86M with memory register, 86R with square root function key, or the scientific 86SR had inspired the famous two designers Dieter Rams and Dietrich Lubs at Braun AG, who designed a lot of pocket calculators afterwards, from which the earlier ones was produced by Omron according to cooperation between the two company.
